Vote “No” on 2C: Here’s Why
NO to Xcel’s fossil-heavy energy mix for likely 20 years. Xcel has big coal plants that they are currently planning to operate until 2041 and 2070.
NO to blank check franchise agreement. Xcel intends to spend $7.6 billion+ in Colorado in the next five years (mostly not on renewables) and will likely raise our rates to keep profits high, while Boulder would likely bear the cost of increased renewables.
NO to monopoly control that eliminates our choices. Competition is emerging in Colorado; alternative providers offer remarkable deals to other communities.
NO to inequitable access to renewable energy. Lower-income ratepayers will be hit harder by rate increases; poorer communities suffer from power plant emissions.
